Here's a WIP picture...

Painting Attempts: Air Brush Trial

Well, I got home later than expected yesterday and I was honestly in no mood to do detail painting on the ATGMs. So I decided to play around with my new toy...

I also used the airbrush to primer the black. I then used it to base coat the Cygnar Blue Base, still have a bit of practice to do. Particularly in mixing the paints to get the right consistency.

Short Update: Christmas Catchup and an Early Christmas Gift

Well, work is still being a pain for my hobby. ATGMs are still not done, was not able to get a game last week and my schedule will no longer allow me to join the Xmas tournament this coming Saturday. So obviously I need help in speeding in speeding up my painting. That's why I've taken the plunge and bought this.

I'm hoping to finish the ATGMs base coats before Saturday, that way I get the entire holiday span to get some experience with it. I still plan to make a video on base coating, washing, dry brushing and highlighting using a regular brush. Probably also during the holiday span.

Painting Attempts: ATGMs Update

Finally got some more work done with the ATGMs. Far from finished, but any progress is good given my lack of time and will power...

Hoping to give you more updates within the week...

Update for the week

So I was not able to finish my ATGMs, the lazy in the lazy painter style overpowered the painter. I was able to get some work done on them last night, the metals and the the leather. No pics, I should really make it a point to take pics of my progress work. I hope to get some more work done tonight, hopefully finish the base coats of all.

Update on the Cat Lover: I LIVE!

Hello folks,

I haven't been updating for some time now, that's because of work... I am hoping to have my ATGM's done soon so I can actually post something here related to painting...

Last week I also tried to host a tournament in Tagaytay, a city about two hours drive away from mine. However due to car issues I had to cancel that tournament, since I was the one bringing 50% of the players as well as the tables and terrain. We got some videos of that trip showing how the players from my city met up the night before, prepared to head out the next day, encountered car issues, orked the car to try and make it still, but eventually had to go home. I'll probably upload or link that video when it goes up...

That's all I have for today... I should have something for you on Saturday, hopefully in the form of fully painted ATGMs...

Another short update - Basing the Storm Lance

Hello folks...

Just another short update, I wasn't able to primer my ATGMs last night due the rain. So I decided to work on basing my Storm Lance min unit. I did the leader first to see how it looks.

Short update

Just another short update...

I won't be working on Siege for a bit...

Major tournament coming in November and I just realized that since I sold off my old ATGMs and the guy the bought them finally collected them... I won't have ATGMs for that tournament, so i have to rush the assembly of my ATGM rescult along with their new base. Here's a pic of the bases that I made using the GF9 urban basing kit.

Hoping to get the ATGMs primered before I stick them to these bases, then maybe get them painted in time...

Checking In

So yeah,

Wasn't able to post anything as of late, due to work... But mostly due to this:

I got so distracted by it that I spent the weekends hosting a session for my WMH play group, I did however start painting this guy before the book arrived:

I'm going to try and get him painted more, maybe post an update tomorrow...

That's all for now...

Tools of the Trade: Brushes

Hello folks, I'm back with regular Warmachine posts now so its time for Tools of the Trade...

Like my last Tools of the Trade post this one will be discussing one of the important tools painters use, brushes. I'd like to believe that what kind and brand of brush a painter uses is a matter of personal preference. If you've painted minis before you'll know what I'm talking about, if your really new then you still have no idea what brush to use. Well I'll be discussing the basic brushes and where you can get them and give you my own personal preference in the end.

Darkness

Hello folks,

This post will not be Warmachine related, so I'll have to say sorry for that...

This post is instead intended to inform people of an important issue that is happening in the country where I live... The Philippines, so if you have no concern with for us or simply don't wish to concern your self with us then again sorry and please just skip this post...

Without going into much detail, there's a law that has been passed here... Its called the "anti cyber crimes law"... Now before you all get on about how cyber crimes is bad I will agree with you that it is, most of the law does a good job of stopping cyber crime. There is just one part of that law that we all have a problem with, the part in where if you like, share or even comment something that another person does not like even if true... They can throw you in jail for a up to 12 years for "libel"

So, the reason my current blog is all black is our way of showing support for revision of this law to take out libel clause from the law...

I will be back to post my regular updates on Saturday, if I haven't been arrested yet under this said law <_<

Painting Attempts: Rangers

Well, I'm a bit late. Better late than never I guess. Here's my attempt at painting my Rangers unit.

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

I'm still alive...

Work's been causing problems to my hobby, hence the lack of updates...

2 weeks of long nights means little time to paint, add the local league and tournaments and you get no time to paint...

Lucky for me this week seems like it will give me some breathing space, I was able to get more work on my Rangers, if I can get more time in tonight I should have something to show by Saturday...

That's all I got for now... Sorry if you were expecting more...

Tools of the Trade: Wet Pallets

Hello folks, before I proceed with my Lazy Painter posts, I figured I'd first talk about the tools you'll need to apply your base coat, wash, highlight and dry brush. So today I'll talk about the wet pallet and how you can make your own.

What is a Wet Pallet?

Well, a pallet is a place where you place your paint to be thinned or mixed. The problem with regular pallets is that paint has a tendency to dry fast when left on it. Now for people who take a long time to paint this can mean a lot of wasted paints. A wet pallet is basically a pallet that keeps your paint from drying.

Tools of the Trade: War Room

Hello,

Tools of the trade will be a series of posts devoted to the tools I use for Warmachine, from paints, to paint brush to list builders. I'll be discussing my personal experince with them and everything that has to do with them.

Today we'll talk about that much talked about app, the War Room. The first thing I want to point out is what War Room was designed to be.

"War Room is designed to be a card library and a free-form tool to organize all the cards you need to play the game and requires knowledge of how to build lists. This allows the app to support army lists of almost any design."

Way of the Lazy Painter: Primer

This is the first in a series of articles on basic painting methods. We'll be discussing priming today, what it is, why you need to do it and more importantly how to do it. The end of this will also have a demonstration video showing how I do my priming.

What is priming?

Priming is the process of applying a thin coat on your miniature to give your acrylic paints a better surface to bond to.

Why do I need to do it?

There are two major reasons why you should place a primer on your miniatures. First as I mention above it gives your paint a better surface to bond to, this means that once your done painting your miniature the paint won't just chip off when you touch it. Second reason to primer is that depending on the color of your primer, it make painting easier. This second reason should be discussed in detail in a the later post, so just use this guide to know what color of primer to use. Miniatures that wear a lot of metal(armor, weapons, etc) primer with black, if it wears a lot of cloth(cloaks and the like) primer with white/grey.

Way of the Lazy Painter: Miniature Painting's 5 Basic Techniques

I've been painting for almost 2 years now, I am by no means an expert but I do feel confident enough to write about the basics of painting. I know that there are a lot of resources on the net for these basics techniques, my hope is that I can provide help to people starting out by simplifying the explanations. Now let's get started.

There are 5 basic techniques that one will use in panting miniatures. With these 5 techniques you can produce tabletop quality miniatures, what this means is that you'll have an army that looks good when you put it on the table and look at it from afar. Techniques that allow you to produce higher quality work also have their foundation on these 5 techniques.
  1. Priming - This is the application of a thin layer of primer to give your paints a better surface to stick to.
  2. Base Coating - Application of color on your miniature.
  3. Washing - Application of a color darker than the base coat in a medium that tends to stay in the deep sections of the miniature. This help create the appearance of shadows in the miniature.
  4. Highlighting - Painting of a lighter shade of color on top of a base coat. This helps create the appearance of light hitting parts of the miniature.
  5. Dry Brushing - The application of paint very thinly only in the raised areas of the miniature. This can be used to highlight and create more dynamic metallic colors.
I'll be discussing each of these techniques in detail and will provide some sample videos on how to do each in the coming weeks.

Paint the Target is up!

Nothing like seeing your work in another man's website among spectacular works to get you rearing to paint...

So, here' what I submitted for this month...

The Stromwall Rises

Yes sir... The Stromwall is up, well not 100% up...

Guns need to be installed... So do the lightning stacks...

Needed to do a lot of cleaning on the resin bits but not so much that I needed special tools...

I managed to clean the model with a hobby knife and files...

Putty may be needed on some parts, also used a lot of it for the putty + super glue method that I learned from mini war gaming.

Overall I think I can have him ready for Saturday's game night...

Oh and I plan to paint his base separate before plopping him on it...

Just to Let You All Know I'm Still Alive...

I just submitted my Paint the Target entry last night...

Won't post pics of it until Paint the Target get released, but I do have a BIG project in the coming months...

That will have to be done after I paint my Ranger unit...

Painting Attempts: Stormsmith Stormcaller

Hello folks,

Today I present to you my attempts at painting a Stormsmith Stormcaller. There were several new things I tried with this paint job and I have just one thing to say. RHULIC GOLD IS AWESOME! I've always been using Soild Gold in my paint jobs, I liked the shine it had and my local store also never have Rhulic Gold in stock. I got lucky a bout a week ago when I got the last pot from their recent restock. Another new thing I tried here is the grey primer. Remember when I said I would post something with white primer? Well, scratch the white and replace it with grey. I also tried placing a clear coat on the finished model, so read on to see how I did what I did.

Fresh Off the Press: Centurion, Hammersmith & Avenger Jack kit

Caspian engineers developed the hulking Centurion to rival the size and strength of Khador’s warjacks. Its increased armor and heavy shield makes it one of Cygnar’s most durable designs, and its mighty piston spear can easily pierce the hulls of enemy warjacks. The Hammersmith swaps out shield and spear with massive twin forge hammers meant to flatten anything in its path, while the Avenger features a stun blade and a groundbreaking seismic cannon. Representing a step forward in Cygnaran technology, the seismic cannon fires sophisticated projectiles that can unleash a localized earthquake upon impact.

No Time to Make a Proper Post Therefore, Have Cats

Sorry folks, work and the wife have prevented me from finishing my current paint project of a Stormsmith Stormcaller. So I give you my cats...

Hopfully next week I can post pics of actual models...

Paint the Target Submission: Rhupert Carvolo

Its been a while since I last submitted an entry for PTT. This month's target was any non-warjack, non-grunt model. This means solos, warcasters and unit attachments. Like most of my entries I decided to paint Carvolo because I was going to anyway at a later date (read: 6 months from now to never), PTT just gave me the nudge I needed to get my lazy painter ass moving. Unlike my other recent paint jobs, I actually took time and effort to paint Carvolo. This is PTT after all and who would not want to submit their best work for the whole internet to see? So, for this post I will take you step by step on each section I painted after the break.

WMH Philippines Update: Another Video Battle Report

Another video battle report from WHM Philippines. This was my second game of the night and I was glad I was able to pull another win. This win started the Siege win streak of 3 wins in a row, currently at 4 wins in a row.

Model Modification: Magnetizing RoS Wrath Jack Kit

Hello folks,

Today I will write about how to magnetize the new RoS Wrath jack kit. The kit includes parts for the Banshee, Sphinx and Deamon. Compared to the old jack kit (Phoenix, Manticore and Hydra) I find the new jack kits easier to magnetize, mainly because the arms are bigger and it allows me to place stronger magnets than in the old one. Less parts to swap out as well, this is always good as it saves on labor and the amount of magnets used. I'll also be making a video on how to magnetize the old jack kit so stay tuned for that.

Another Battle Report from WMH Philippines

This battle report features my Siege list at 35pts against Kim's pVlad list. After this game I made some changes to the list by removing the ATGM+UA and Arland and placing in JR to take the Defender, a min unit of Stormguards and a Stormcaller to fill the extra point.

Lightning Warfare: Storm Surge 35pts - Part 2

Welcome back folks. In my last post I began my discussion of the 35pt "Storm Surge" list that I made. I tackled three parts of the list, pStryker, the Lancer and the Stormguard unit. This post will continue the discussion, we will discuss the Arcane Tempest Gun Mage unit, the Defender and lastly the Storm Lance unit. Now, let's  jump right into part two of the discussion.

Lightning Warfare: Storm Surge 35pts - Part 1

Hello folks,

Today I plan to talk about a list that I enjoy using at 35pts. I've named it "Storm Surge", I got the name after I played it against several opponents and noticed that the list just moves forward regardless of the army type I'm facing. Much like a real life storm surge in where a wall of water just keeps moving forward regardless of what's in its path. Here's the list:

Note: Yes, I failed to finish the white primer model so this will have to do for now...

First Ever Video Battle Report for WMH Philippines

Out of total randomness our local PG decided to try and make video battle report. Ok not total randomness, we've both been messing with the idea and only got around to doing it last Friday night. Before I link the video, first I sucked at this game. I was making noob mistakes and I wasn't thinking enough. That said, I was fighting one of the top players locally so I have excuses. Here's the video and... Don't judge me T_T

Gamer Essentials: Dice Lore

"You do not choose the dice, the dice choose you..."

Dice is an essential part of the game, it can give you victory or deny it to you. It is for this reason that one must understand the dice in order so you may rely on it during your times of need. Those who do so can call themselves the master of certain dice. This post will tackle little know and understood world of dice lore.

Painting Attempts: Defender

Hello folks, before anything else I have to say that this isn't the post I promised last week. Due to real life circumstances the white primer model was not completed on time. Instead I would like to post my painted Defender. This model was actually painted even before I started my reboot, but it seems that I have yet to post the finished work in my blog. Now, here's my attempts at painting the Defender.

Painting Attempts: Charger Reboot

Welcome back, now before I begine I must say that this is the least of my favorite reboots. The reason is that I feel that I could have done a better job. Might be the fact that I had a good week break after painting the base coat of blue and doing shades and high light. It may also be that I'm rushing to finish this so I can make the weekly post. Whatever it is, the only consolation I get is that its still looks better than my old paint job. Well I think so anyway, why don't you be the judge.

Painting Attempts: Lancer Reboot

Hello again, this week my reboot model is the Lancer. Now this reboot is a little bit more different than the last ones. This reboot paint job involved painting certain parts before the final assembly. The reason one would to this is to ease the painting of area near impossible to reach if you don't paint before the final assembly. The parts that I painted before final assembly would be the shield and the entire spear arm.

Here's what the old lancer looked like

Perhaps Nemo’s greatest creation, the Stormwall towers over Cygnar’s enemies with all the majesty and menace of a looming cloudburst. From the thunder of its guns to the blinding cracks of arcing electricity from its lightning pods, the Stormwall is the mechanikal embodiment of the tempest. Powered by both steam and surging voltaic energy, it riddles the enemy lines with cannon shells and hails of bullets before smashing survivors with its electrified fists.

REBOOT! - 1 Year into the Hobby

Hello fellow wargamers... I know, I know I havn't been updating since forever... I'd give you guys excusess like work got in the way and my wife and I are trying to have a baby, but that won't magically generate posts for this blog during my very long abscense...

As the title suggests I'm doing a reboot, not just of this blog but also of my army and even my mindset when I play. What exactly does that mean?

Well for my army, I plan to repaint them in a different color scheme. They will still be blue mind you (I like Cygnar blue after all), but with my personal twist.

The blog will be updated every week like when I started it(at least I will do my best to do so) in the slight change (i.e. VERY HIGH CHANCE) that I can't post a proper update I will post a filler post just to keep the blog active. The posts will still be centered on painting, but I will admit that I won't always have a painting project. I'll probably discuss that in a post sometime, so if I can't update you on a painting project I will instead post some tactical opinion on Cygnar models. I did this before but back then I myself wasn't sure how to use what unit, so it felt wrong for me to post about tactics that I personally have not used.

Mindset wise, basically I have accepted this as my hobby. Its my escape from the stress of work and a way for me to enjoy myself, I was actually too serious about this hobby and it caused some burnouts. Now I'm all "loose" about it, I will do this to have fun. If I get good at it then kudos to me.

Now, I think its only fitting that I finish what I started in my last few posts before I vanished. My last model was Reinholt, I finished him but I never showed the finish product here. Well, here he is...

I consider him to be my best work so far, also I need to thank the guys at Lost Hemisphere for sharing my entries in their monthly "Paint the Target". They really help push me to get my stuff painted.

Alright, that's all for today folks... You can move along now, visit me again next week when I share my re-painted pStryker. Thanks for reading. ^_^
